Our Children’s Curriculum

With the introduction of the new National Curriculum in September 2014, (for which long term subject plans can be seen in the ‘Curriculum Overview and Skills’ section above), we included the children in the design of events, visits and experiences.

We asked them to list all the things they would like to do before they leave Moss Park Junior School aged 11 years old. They were excited and inspired and the list was very creative! Here are a few examples of what your children said they would like to do before their 12th birthday:

  • Visit a zoo
  • Erect a tent
  • Travel on the train/ metrolink
  • Visit a waterpark
  • Go to a beach
  • Walk around a football stadium
  • Go to the cinema
  • Watch a show at the theatre
  • Go on a zipwire
  • Visit an aquarium

In response to this we have selected two major experiences for each year group to enjoy, (dates to follow):

  • Year 3 will visit the cinema to watch a film. They will also take a trip to Chester Zoo
  • Year 4 will visit the cinema to watch a film and take a trip to the beach, where they will also participate in mini beast activities
  • Year 5 will visit the cinema to watch a film and also enjoy a trip to the national children’s museum ‘Eureka!’
  • Year 6 will visit the cinema to watch a film and also visit the ‘Blue Planet Aquarium’.

In the future, we also plan to hold a team building challenge day for the whole school which will include building a den, putting up a tent, orienteering and building and flying a kite, amongst other activities. More details to follow!
